Bill Belichick on trades: ‘Our phone lines are open’

The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. ET, and so far the New England Patriots have yet to make any moves.

But that doesn’t mean they’re not willing to entertain offers.

“We’re always open to discussions,” Belichick said on WEEI Monday, via CSN New England. “I think everybody in the league probably knows that. Our phone lines are open. Who knows? It’s hard to tell. It takes two to make a deal and it has to be the right situation and all that.”

Earlier this year the Patriots traded for defensive end Akiem Hicks and linebacker Jon Bostic. Other notable trades for the team have included, wide receiver Randy Moss in 2007, cornerback Aqib Talib in 2012 and linebacker Akeem Ayers from the Tennessee Titans in 2014.

The Patriots could be looking for extra help at the offensive line and another wide receiver for Tom Brady. During the preseason Reggie Wayne was signed briefly, although he chose to retire not long after the signing.

With the San Francisco 49ers needing help desperately in several areas, the thought of a trade for Anquan Boldin to the Patriots for draft picks seems quite enticing.

We’ll hear soon enough if Belichick’s phone starts ringing off the hook with the deadline quickly approaching.
