For Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, the times they are a-changin’, and he’s having a hard time adjusting to the new generation entering the NFL.
At the age of 32, Cutler isn’t exactly ancient, but he sure sounds it in a recent interview with ESPN’s Jeff Dickerson.
“It’s tough. It is tough,” Cutler said with a smile. “I think kids have changed a lot since whenever I came in in 2006. It’s a different animal. These kids with their phones. All the social media, everything they do. They were telling me that they play video games now and they have another screen where people watch them play video games. It’s like, I don’t understand that. They just watch you play the video game. They’re like, ‘Yeah, it’s awesome.’ I don’t know anything about this.”
Perhaps the Cutlers own the last rotary phone in Chicago.
This is a hilarious statement from Cutler. I mean, we’ve all seen our mothers adapt ever so swiftly to the newfangled technology of smartphones—and the gaming that comes along with them. Yet somehow, a not-yet-middle-aged football player is struggling with “these kids with their phones.”
“Hey! You kids! Get off my lawn!” – Cutler, probably.
To be fair, he does sound like he’s trying to figure out how to relate to the youngsters coming into the Bears locker room.
“You kind of have to get in their world a little bit and get to know them,” Cutler said. “If you’ve got to play a few video games with them while people watch them on the internet, that’s what you’ve got to do.”
The struggle is real, people.
The Cutler memes just keep writing themselves, and Cutler continues not to care.
