Report: Larry Sanders Doesn’t Want to Play Basketball Anymore

If $33 million over three years isn’t reason enough to work your tail off to play a game called basketball, nothing will be.

A recent report from Gery Woelfel of the Racine Journal Times in Wisconsin indicates that Milwaukee Bucks center Larry Sanders has told some team officials that he doesn’t want to play basketball anymore.

Sources tell me that Bucks center Larry Sanders recently told some Bucks officials that he doesn’t want to play basketball anymore.

The NBA columnist went on to say that the Bucks attempted to trade Sanders and Brandon Knight to the Indiana Pacers for Roy Hibbert in the offseason. A deal that never materialized.

Taking this story to an entirely new level, Woelfel was told by those close to Sanders this past offseason that they were concerned he wasn’t committed to basketball and “wanted to explore other options.”

Sanders, who is averaging just 7.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game this season, has not played in the team’s last six games due to a combination of an illness and personal reasons. Bucks head coach Jason previously indicated that Sanders absence was because of the flu, but that story has now been changed to “personal reasons.”

This may not have much of a correlation with the recent report, but it could speak to where Sanders’ head is at right now. He defended his use of marijuana last April, citing “medical benefits” to the drug (via CBS Sports).

It should be interesting to see how this story plays out in the coming weeks. If Sanders were to up and retire, he wouldn’t earn the $33 million remaining on his contract after this season.
