Showtime 80’s Region Final – Greatest NBA Championship Teams Tournament

Over the course of the NBA Finals, Sportsnaut is challenging you to engage in what promises to be an interesting project. We have seeded our top-16 teams in the history of the NBA and just put the finishing touches on the brackets.

Here we are. On to the second round of Sportsnaut’s Greatest NBA Championship Teams Tournament. Only eight teams remain and we are currently at the regional final, or in NCAA Tournament terms, “The Elite Eight.”

Much like the Old School Region, this Showtime 80’s Region went according to plan. Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and the 1986-1997 Los Angeles Lakers defeated the 1988-1989 Detroit Pistons by recording nearly 70 percent of the vote.

Meanwhile, Larry Bird’s 1985-1986 Boston Celtics recorded 76 percent of the vote compared to just 24 percent for Julius Erving’s 1982-1983 Philadelphia 76ers. Much like what we saw throughout the 1980’s, the Celtics and Lakers will now square off in what promises to be an epic matchup in Sportsnaut’s Greatest NBA Championship Teams Tournament.

Here are the current results of the Old School Region Final between the 1964-1965 Boston Celtics and 1972-1973 New York Knicks.
