New NFL Drug Policy Likely to Include Suspension For First-Time DUI Offenders

The National Football League is finally prepared to take a tougher stance on DUI’s, which have seemed to plague the league for years now. According to a report by Pro Football Talk, the league and the NFLPA are in agreement as it relates to enhanced penalties for first-time DUI offenders.

Per a league source, the new substance-abuse policy (which will be implemented once an HGH testing agreement is reached) would impose a one-game suspension for a first-offense DUI. The penalty also would include a fine in the amount of one game check.

Under current rules, a player is fined for two games for a first offense. There have been over four dozen DUI-related arrests around the NFL since the Baltimore Ravens defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII back in February of 2013.

For their part, the NFLPA is fully supportive of this strict new policy that’s targeting what has become an epidemic around the league. None of this matters until the two sides comes to an agreement on HGH testing, which has been the biggest source of contention in conversations about a new drug policy.
