The Minnesota Timberwolves could very well be on the verge of locking up one of their young catalysts. According to this one report, the team is closing in on a five-year, $148 million extension with star forward Andrew Wiggins.

The two sides have been in discussions about a long-term deal throughout the offseason. Wiggins, 22, is entering the fourth year of his rookie contract and was set to become a free agent following the 2018-19 season.

Sure Wiggins could have waited until after the upcoming campaign to earn a bit more cash, but he’s now set to cash in to the tune of nearly $30 million annually.

While Wiggins has not elevated his all-around game since entering the NBA, he is coming off a 2016-17 season that saw him 23.6 points per game. He’s seen as the face of the franchise in Minnesota with fellow youngster Karl-Anthony Towns and the recently acquired Jimmy Butler.
