Report: ‘Internal disagreement exists’ about Kirk Cousins’ value

The Vikings signing Kirk Cousins will go down as one of the worst deals in NFL Free agency this year

How much is Kirk Cousins worth? That’s something that Cousins and Washington seem to disagree on. Now we’re learning it’s something that members of the Redskins organization reportedly don’t agree on.

On Thursday, reports emerged that Washington was not sold on Cousins. On Friday, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio took it a step further, noting disagreement within the team.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, internal disagreement exists within the organization regarding Cousins’ actual value.”

Florio noted that the disagreements actually go back to 2015, when the decision was made to go with Cousins over Robert Griffin III. While Cousins certainly has his flaws, it’s hard to imagine anyone still lingering over that issue.

Previous reports have said that a deal is not close to happening. That’s problematic given that the deadline is Monday and Cousins reportedly wants to play with former offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, now the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.

But if people within the front office can’t agree on what he’s worth, it’s hard to imagine a contract getting done. Cousins may not be basing his life on money, but he’s certainly going to be asking for a lot of it. How can any deal get worked out if the people he’s negotiating with don’t even agree? Anything is possible, but it seems like a lot of hurdles need to be cleared for a long term deal to be realistic.
