Tigers’ Victor Martinez hospitalized with irregular heartbeat

Detroit Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez has been hospitalized with an irregular heartbeat.

There’s a scary situation developing with the Detroit Tigers and veteran designated hitter Victor Martinez. Detroit placed the five-time All-Star on the 10-day disabled list Friday with an irregular heartbeat.

He was in the hospital overnight and could remain there into Saturday morning. Tigers manager Brad Ausmus also noted that there will be more information available on Martinez’s status during the weekend.

It’s a situation that transcends sports itself. Hopefully, this scare is nothing more than a minor setback for Martinez.

On the diamond, the 38-year-old slugger is hitting .261 with five homers and 29 RBI on the season. A former catcher with Boston and Cleveland, Martinez has been relegated to the DH role since joining Detroit back in 2011.

We will have further updates as soon as they become available. For now, our thoughts are with Martinez and the Tigers.
