To say that the Minnesota Timberwolves are excited about the acquisition of All-Star Jimmy Butler would be an understatement. The draft-day move enabled Minnesota to add a third piece to a core that already includes Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins.

For his part, Towns seems to be overflowing with confidence now that Butler will be his running partner this upcoming season.

“It’s over.”

We’re not 100 percent sure what that means. Does Towns actually believe Minnesota has taken that next step to compete with the Golden State Warriors out west? If so, that might be what we’d call false hope.

Though, the Wolves themselves did a tremendous job adding an elite-level talent without mortgaging their core or future draft pick assets.

Minnesota is also in the midst of potentially adding a upgrade at point guard over Ricky Rubio. In fact, Butler is already recruiting fellow All-Star Kyle Lowry to the twin cities. Whether that comes to fruition remains to be seen.

At the very least, fans in Minnesota have more reason to be excited about their team than at any point since Kevin Garnett moved on to the Boston Celtics. That’s not a bad thing at all.
