49ers’ Eric Reid, Eli Harold will stand for national anthem in 2017

Eric Reid and Colin Kaepernick kneel during the anthem

Colin Kaepernick made waves in 2016 when he did not stand for the national anthem before games. But shortly after his protest became public knowledge, he was not alone on the San Francisco 49ers sideline. Safety Eric Reid and linebacker Eli Harold quickly joined him.

But according to Reid, both he and Harold will stand again in 2017.

Kaepernick, still a free agent, has also stated that he will stand if he lands a job in the NFL.

Reid’s point is undeniable. After Kaepernick’s protest became known, he was joined by several key players around the league. That certainly became a strong talking point in the sports world. The 49ers gained far more national attention than a 2-14 team normally would, especially in the early part of the season. That can be attributed almost solely to Kaepernick.

It also became a talking point outside of sports. Former President Barack Obama and current President Donald Trump (running for office at the time) were two of many political figures to weigh in, both of which can be read about here.
