Former player and long time Boston Red Sox announcer Jerry Remy announced on Monday that while his present diagnosis seems positive, lung cancer has returned to his body.

Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski passed his best wishes along.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Jerry, and hopefully he’ll be back with us soon,” Dombrowski said, via CBS Boston. “Jerry is very well-respected. He’s been here for a very long time, so you’d travel in here as a visitor and know how well-respected he is and how well-thought of he is from the community. I know the fans love him, the organization loves him and NESN loves him. Hopefully he’s back with us soon.”
Remy finished his playing career in Boston, playing with the Red Sox from 1978-1984. He joined Boston’s broadcasting team in 1988 and has called nearly 4,000 games.
Per the CBS Boston report, this is the second recurrence of the cancer since it was initially diagnosed and treated in 2008. The other came in 2013. The good news for Remy’s fans is that the same report said that “this latest bout will not keep him from the Red Sox broadcast booth.”
Remy also missed time in 2009 while battling depression, and in 2013 when his son Jared was arrested for the murder of his girlfriend.
