Cowboys have yet to meet with quarterback Tony Romo

Tony Romo, Jerry Jones

The Dallas Cowboys have a decision to make on quarterback Tony Romo here soon. They simply need to decide whether to trade or release Romo within the next two weeks. Should a decision not be made by then, the Cowboys will find themselves behind the proverbial eight-ball from a cap standpoint.

Recent suggestions are that Dallas is more likely to release Romo than trade him. Given his $24.7 million cap hit for the 2017 season, this seems to make sense.

Though, there’s definitely a train of thought out there that suggests the Cowboys might be able to get something for the injury-plagued former Pro Bowler.

This makes it even more interesting that the Cowboys’ brass, owner Jerry Jones included, have not yet met with Romo to discuss his situation.

Could it be that the Cowboys are evaluating the trade market for Romo before ultimately sitting down with him? This would seem to suggest that might be the case.

On the other hand, and much like we saw with Adrian Peterson and the Minnesota Vikings, said meeting might be nothing more than a courtesy. Peterson met with the Vikings just recently, only to be told on Tuesday that his contract option for the 2017 season has not been picked up (more on that here).

After playing a combined five games over the past two seasons, interest in Romo via a trade might not be too widespread. Then again, we know how desperate some teams are to add a starter-caliber quarterback. Despite his recent injury issues, Romo fits the bill.

It will be interesting to see what happens between now and the middle of March. Given that the Cowboys have yet to meet with Romo, the writing might be on the wall here.
