Hue Jackson: ‘Too soon’ to say whether Robert Griffin III will start

Robert Griffin III

A report earlier on Monday concluded that “all signs” were pointing in the direction of Robert Griffin III starting for the Cleveland Browns next week.

It makes sense. At 0-12 on the season, Cleveland needs a shot in the arm. If the often-injured RGIII is ready to give it a go, why not see if he can act as the team’s savior?

Though, it must be noted that RGIII has not officially been activated from injured reserve after missing the past 11 games with a shoulder injury. That has to be the first step in the process of him actually returning to the field.

It’s in this that Browns head coach Hue Jackson has made it clear no decision has been made regarding the team’s Week 14 starter against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Cleveland needs to win one of its final four games in order to avoid becoming just the second team in NFL history to go winless during a 16-game regular season.

And in reality, it’s been the musical chairs at the quarterback position that has held this team back from being competitive. Everyone from rookies Cody Kessler and Kevin Hogan to veteran Charlie Whitehurst and quarterback-turned-receiver Terrelle Pryor have taken snaps under center for the Browns this season.

Should RGIII prove himself to be healthy, he could very well have a four-game audition to show the Browns’ brass that he should be part of the quarterback conversation heading into the offseason.
