That didn’t take too long at all. Just two games into the 2016 season, and there already appears to be a rift growing in the Washington Redskins’ locker room.
No, this rift doesn’t include Robert Griffin III. He’s now far removed from the entire dynamic in D.C. as a member of the Cleveland Browns.
Instead, it reportedly includes the guy that took over the starting job from Griffin III.
According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, there’s a growing number of Redskins offensive players that are not happy with Cousins’ on-field performance early in the season.
“Per a source with knowledge of the situation, multiple offensive players have begun to complain about quarterback Kirk Cousins, pointing to a lack of decisiveness, erratic play, and confusion,” Florio reported Sunday evening.
It sure is starting to look like the issue in Washington is the locker room, not the team’s quarterbacks.
Unless you were hiding under rock over the past two seasons, you know very well there was a reported split between Griffin III and his now former teammates. If these same players are now taking issue with Cousins, one has to wonder if they are the problem.
Sure Cousins stunk it up in Washington’s embarrassing home loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. That came after a less-than-inspiring season-opening performance in a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers this past Monday.
Even then, one has to wonder exactly what is happening in Washington. After all, Cousins is coming off a 2015 campaign that saw him lead the team to the NFC East title. Turning on him after just two games makes little sense.
