Report: Jimmy Garoppolo ruled out for Thursday’s game, up to six weeks

After taking a big hit Sunday that drove him into the ground, injuring his shoulder, Jimmy Garoppolo won’t play in Week 3, at the very least.

Per Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald, he could be held out even longer.

“Garoppolo is still undergoing a full battery of tests on his ailing right shoulder, but the early indication is the injury could take six weeks to heal, according to a source. At minimum, the Patriots know he won’t play Thursday night against the Texans at Gillette Stadium.”

Howe notes that the injury could take up to six weeks to heal.

Right now, with Tom Brady and Garoppolo both sidelined for different reasons, the Patriots are in a tight spot at the quarterback position.

New England escaped Sunday’s game with a win at home against the Miami Dolphins. However, there was a slight drop-off in production offensively when Jacoby Brissett entered the game. The Dolphins nearly came back to win the game in the fourth quarter as a result.

With two more weeks to play until Brady returns, there is a chance New England is in the market for another quarterback. We’ve come up with a handful of potential candidates, which you can read about here.

Head coach Bill Belichick has guided his club through choppy waters before, so fans shouldn’t panic. That said, it’s going to be interesting to see what happens next.
