Browns rookie WR Corey Coleman breaks hand in practice

If the Cleveland Browns didn’t have bad luck … well, you know how that old sob story goes.

Rookie wide receiver Corey Coleman, coming off a productive start to his career, apparently suffered a broken hand in practice on Wednesday.

Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot was the first to report the dreadful news. The Browns have since confirmed that Coleman did indeed break his hand.

It’s not yet known just how long the rookie first-round pick will be out, but he joins quarterbacks Robert Griffin III and Josh McCown on the shelf. It’s likely a long-term injury for the Baylor product.

Already thin at wide receiver after losing Travis Benjamin in free agency and Josh Gordon to suspension, this is going to hurt the Browns big time moving forward.

Quarterback-turned-receiver Terrelle Pryor likely takes over as Cody Kessler’s top pass-catching option at wide receiver until Coleman returns or Gordon is reinstated from suspension.

Coleman recorded seven receptions for 173 yards and two scores in the first two games of the season.
