Jamaal Charles activated to practice for first time since ACL injury

Jamaal Charles

The Kansas City Chiefs finally welcomed running back Jamaal Charles to the active roster on Tuesday for the first time since last October.

BJ Kissel, reporter for the team’s website, noted Charles will be practicing on a “limited basis” Tuesday.

The Chiefs had previously indicated the running back is expected to be ready to play in Week 1, with general manager John Dorsey saying he’s “optimistic” about Charles hitting that goal.

Provided Charles is healthy this season, he’s going to receive a full workload.

This is not only great news for the team, but it’s also outstanding news for fantasy football owners. When he’s on the field, the running back is among the top backs in the league, both running and catching the ball.

For his career, Charles is rushing at a pace not seen since the 1940s when Marion Motley was tearing it up playing both ways. Averaging 5.5 yards per carry, he’s ahead of the likes of Jim Brown, Gayle Sayers and Barry Sanders.

Before getting injured last season, Charles was on track for another outstanding season. He totaled 541 yards and five touchdowns in his first four-plus games before tearing his ACL in Week 5 against the Chicago Bears.
