DeAndre Hopkins praises Saints rookie wide receiver

DeAndre Hopkins

New Orleans Saints rookie second-round pick Michael Thomas has been extremely impressive in his first summer with the team.

Coming off a preseason debut that saw him catch four passes for 67 yards, the former Ohio State receiver seems to be prepared to make an impact out of the gate.

Add in the likes of Houston Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins as someone that’s impressed by what he’s seen from Thomas thus far.

“I like his game a lot,” Hopkins said of the Saints rookie, via The Times-Picayune. “He reminds me of myself, honestly. The guy is not a very talked-about guy, but he goes out there and makes plays. Coming out of the combine, he was one of my favorite receivers. (Even) without me talking to him before, I liked his game a lot.”

These comments came after the Texans and Saints engaged in join practices in the lead up to their preseason matchup on Saturday.

Coming off a 2015 campaign that saw him record 111 receptions for over 1,500 yards, Hopkins is definitely an authority on this.

And much like Thomas, he flew under the radar before being selected 27th overall by the Texans back in 2013.

While Thomas himself is currently stuck behind Brandin Cooks, Willie Snead and Brandon Coleman on the Saints depth chart, he’s done a whole lot to prove he’s worthy of playing time as a rookie.

At the very least, it will be interesting to see how Thomas performance in comparison to an all-world receiver this upcoming weekend in Houston. If Hopkins’ comparison rings true, it will be a nice little battle between the two.
