Report: Giants’ Victor Cruz cleared to practice, not on PUP list

The long-awaited return of New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz is about to become a reality.

After being cleared to practice, Cruz will not be on the Giants’ physically unable to perform list and is scheduled to practice Friday, per Paul Schwartz of The New York Post.

Cruz hasn’t suited up in a Giants uniform since sustaining a torn patellar tendon back in Week 6 of the 2014 season.

He was expected to play last year after taking several months off to rehab. Though, other lingering injuries hampered his progress as he remained sidelined for the entire 2015 campaign.

Wanting to stay with the Giants, Cruz even took a pay cut during the offseason. Whether Cruz returns to previous form remains to be seen. The injuries he’s suffered over the past two years aren’t going to be easy to come back from.

Since Cruz’ absence, fellow wideout Odell Beckham Jr. has almost literally stolen the show in New York. Furthermore, the Giants have a high-upside rookie in Sterling Shepard on the roster.

The Oklahoma product is seen as a near carbon copy of Cruz — something that made him act as insurance policy during the draft.

Cruz may need to be eased back into the swing of things after being off the field for well over a year-and-a-half. However things play out in training camp, his return to action should only be seen as a positive.
