Arizona Cardinals starting quarterback Carson Palmer is 36 years old and has two years remaining on his contract. Despite his recent run of success in the desert, there’s a decent chance Palmer will call it quits when his current deal expires.
If that’s the case, Palmer’s primary backup, Drew Stanton, would like an opportunity to start under center in Arizona.

Stanton might be best known as being one of the plethora of quarterbacks who took snaps for the Detroit Lions during their 0-16 season back in 2008, also Stanton’s rookie year.
The 32-year-old former Michigan State standout has started a total of 12 games in eight NFL seasons, including eight for the Cardinals back in 2014.
He responded by posting a solid 5-3 record en route to helping the Cardinals to a playoff appearance with Palmer out of action.
For his part, Palmer is set to make over $38 million in the next two seasons. Should his struggles in the NFC Championship game (six turnovers) this past January extend into the 2016 season, there might be some thought given to replacing him in 2017.
Though, that’s pure conjecture. And based on Palmer’s success in Arizona, it’s hard to believe he will continue to struggle.
