Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Louis Murphy likely didn’t plan on waking up in the Flagler Museum over the weekend. But that’s what happened after he attended his former Florida Gators teammate Deonte Thompson’s wedding.

According to a report by Greg Auman of tampabay.com, Murphy awoke to find that he had been locked in the facility after falling asleep in the museum’s courtyard. The good thing is that Murphy was not charged with any crime after he told the Palm Beach police that he “got nervous and broke the glass on one of the doors in order to unlock it.”

Per the report, Murphy called a friend who in turn called 911. The cops arrived to the museum when Murphy admitted that he had been drinking and fell asleep. There is an estimated $1,000 worth of damage to the window for which Murphy is responsible for to repair the damage.

Murphy fessed up to the incident, and it would appear that all parties agree he didn’t have much choice in his actions to seek help.

“With no one around, my only option was to break a small glass pane of the door in order to access a phone and call for help. I dialed the police and explained that I needed assistance. It’s unfortunate that I needed to break the glass, but the police officers on the scene and museum staff acknowledged that I didn’t have many other options. I’m working with the museum to ensure everything is properly handled.”

Maybe next time around, Murphy’s friends will make sure he is present and accounted for when it is time to leave a social gathering.

Murphy is entering his eighth year in the NFL and his third season as a member of the Buccaneers. Currently, he is on the mend from a knee surgery that cut his 2015 year short after only six games. He is listed as a fourth-string receiver according to the Bucs’ depth chart.
