Anthony Davis shut down for season by Pelicans

Anthony Davis trade

New Orleans Pelicans center Anthony Davis has been shut down for the remainder of the season due to knee and shoulder issues.

Head coach Alvin Gentry spoke to the media Sunday to announce the move.

The Pelicans are well outside playoff contention, which likely has a lot to do with this decision. With a record of 25-43, the season hasn’t gone according to plan, and this serves as icing on the cake of disappointment after the team burst through with a playoff season a year ago.

Davis has played well for New Orleans, averaging 24.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game this season. He has made three All-Star team in his first four seasons NBA seasons and is one of the brightest young stars in the Association.

With the time he needs to heal, and if the team makes a few savvy offseason moves, perhaps Anthony and the Pelicans will be back in the mix next season after what has to considered a failed 2015-16 campaign.
