Antonio Smith to report to camp as no charges filed for alleged child abuse

Denver Broncos defensive end Antonio Smith is headed to training camp after being investigated for suspicion of child abuse earlier this year.

Smith signed a one-year contract with the Broncos in April. Just over a month later, he found himself in hot water when an Associated Press report indicated he was being investigated for child abuse, and that the abuse was allegedly “sexual in nature.”

However, no charges have been filed to this point, so Smith is headed to join his teammates for training camp, per Mike Klis of 9News in Denver:

Klis notes the team has been in communication with Smith and the league, leading to the decision to have him come into camp:

This won’t sit well with a lot of people, but it does follow the formula implemented by the league and other teams under similar circumstances. Should circumstances change and charges are filed, then you can be sure Smith will be swiftly dealt with by the Broncos and the league.
