Seahawks Fan Starts GoFundMe Page to Help Re-sign Russell Wilson

There was once a time when GoFundMe actually served some good. Heck, it still might outside of the sports world. However, fans have started to make a mockery of this outlet—an outlet that has in the past been used for a ton of good.

Fresh off New England Patriots fans using the site to help pay for the $1 million fine the NFL levied against the organization stemming from Deflategate, one Seahawks fan is taking it to an entirely new level.

The “Keep Russell Wilson in Seattle” page, aimed at helping Seattle re-sign the quarterback, has received over $1,000 in donations in less than two weeks.

Yes, over $1,000.

Outside of the pure stupidity of it all, a couple things stand out to us.

First off, who in their right mind thinks $5 million is going to help Seattle re-sign Wilson? Second, do the donors understand that Seattle owner Paul Allen is worth a cool $17.6 billion.

The one positive out of this is that the individual that set up the GoFundMe page intends on donating the money to charity should he not reach that $5 million goal.

Still, one would think that people could find a better cause to take up.

After all, we are in the midst of Memorial Day weekend.

Just a thought.
