San Francisco 49ers Sign Darnell Dockett

This is just weird.

Veteran defensive tackle Darnell Dockett has apparently signed with the San Francisco 49ers less than a week after the rival Arizona Cardinals released him.

The 33-year-old defensive tackle, who missed the entire 2014 season with a torn ACL, had previously made it clear just how much he despised the 49ers. Despite this, the three-time Pro Bowl has agreed to a two-year, $7.5 million contract with the team.

The news was first reported by Dockett’s agent.

Dockett’s role is undetermined, but it’s likely he will replace Ray McDonald as a starter in the 49ers base 3-4 scheme.

Prior to missing all of last season with an injury, Dockett had sat out just three times during his first 10 years in the NFL. His best season came in 2007 when the defensive tackle recorded 58 tackles and nine sacks.
