Chip Kelly Admits He Has “Always Been a Fan of Tim Tebow”

The world went into panic last week when the news broke that quarterback Tim Tebow visited the Philadelphia Eagles’ facility.

Although Tebow worked out for Chip Kelly’s team, there doesn’t seem to be anything in the works as it relates to the team signing the former first-round pick.

Now, we have a bit more insight into Tebow’s visit. Kelly had this to say during an interview with NFL Media’s Steve Wyche on Monday:

I’ve always been a fan of Tim. We bring in a lot of players for private workouts, it’s just he’s the one that everyone keeps talking about. We brought in Terrelle Pryor for a workout and Thad Lewis in for a workout. When players are available for you to work them out it’s the same thing of going to the Veteran Combine or going to the Super Regional Combine.

Trying to mesh in a high-profile name like Tebow in with Terrelle Pryor and Thad Lewis is not exactly fooling anyone here.

However, Kelly further defended his stance:

It’s getting an exposure to a player so that when you have to make a decision and say ‘Hey, what are we going to do now. You say, I don’t know anything about these players. Let’s bring them in and work them out, and it may be too late at that point in time.’ So all we’re doing is just doing our homework.

Kelly makes it no secret that he likes the versatility of mobile quarterbacks—a quality that Tebow definitely owns. The problem with Tebow has been actually throwing a football. In his 35 NFL games, the former Heisman winner has completed only 47.9 percent of his passes.

While we do not know if behind-the-scenes action is happening in order for the Eagles to obtain Tebow, one thing is certain this offseason: Kelly is definitely making some surprising moves. Perhaps Kelly’s next quarterback visitor will be Brady Quinn, who is hoping for one more shot at returning to the NFL after a season away from the game.
