Officials in Lions-Cowboys Game Reverse Key Penalty After Announcing it

If you wanted some controversy during the first weekend of NFL Playoff action, officials during the Detroit Lions game against the Cowboys in Dallas provided just that in the fourth quarter on Sunday evening.

With Detroit up by three points and just over half a quarter remaining, Matthew Stafford threw a pass down the seam to tight end Brandon Pettigrew, who was obviously interfered with by Cowboys linebacker Anthony Hitchens.

Officials did the correct thing by throwing the flag on third and one. But unfortunately for the Lions, the refs (officiating their first game together on the season) picked up the flag after initially announcing a penalty against the Cowboys.

Detroit punted on the very next play, giving the Cowboys the ball at their own 40. Within four minutes, Tony Romo hit Terrance Williams for the go-ahead touchdown.
