Report: Bears to Bench Jay Cutler, Start Jimmy Clausen

Some pretty surprising news coming out of Chicago on Wednesday evening. According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the Chicago Bears are planning to start Jimmy Clausen at quarterback against the Detroit Lions on Sunday.

This means that the ultra enigmatic Jay Cutler will be warming the bench after struggling throughout the vast majority of the 2014 campaign.

It also leads us to wonder whether Cutler has a future in Chicago. Bears offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer indicated last week that the team was feeling buyer’s remorse after signing the veteran signal caller to a whopping seven-year, $126.7 million extension in the offseason.

After a horrendous performance against the New Orleans Saints on Monday night, Cutler leads the NFL in turnovers entering Week 16.

Clausen, a former second-round pick of the Carolina Panthers, has started a total of 10 games since entering the NFL in 2010. All came during his rookie campaign.
