Vikings Name Matt Cassel Starter for Third Preseason Game

Despite Minnesota Vikings’ rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater’s dazzling game against the Cardinals, the team has confirmed Matt Cassel will start the third preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs next weekend.

Bridgewater made some fantastic late-game plays, including scoring a last-second, game-winning touchdown against the Cardinals.  Bridgewater put up 177 yards and two touchdowns, but that apparently wasn’t enough for him to get a look as the Vikings starter.

Cassel, who will start against the Chiefs in Saturday’s third preseason game, wasn’t exactly a slouch either last week, scoring one touchdown and completing 12 of his 16 pass attempts for a total of 153 yards According to Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer, this confirmed Cassel’s starter status.

If Bridgewater, however, can put together another top-notch performance or two in the next couple of weeks, it will surely do wonders for the potential of him starting come Week 1 of the regular season. Either way, whether it’s Cassel or Bridgewater or a combination of the two leading the team in 2014, the Vikings seem to in capable hands, especially under Norv Turner’s pass-heavy scheme.
