Competitive Western Conference team to ‘aggressively pursue’ Scoot Henderson in NBA draft

Once Victor Wembanyama comes off the draft board to the San Antonio Spurs, the next question becomes which prospect will be the No. 2 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft? The consensus seems to point to either Brandon Miller or Scoot Henderson, but really, it depends who’s picking.

For now, the Charlotte Hornets hold the second pick, and the Portland Trail Blazers hold the third. But, as we’ve seen time and time again, there’s no guarantee either team will be staying put on draft day.

Draft trade rumors for both picks have already circulated the airwaves, and now we have another one to add to the pile. According to Shams Charania, the New Orleans Pelicans are “expected to aggressively pursue a top pick, potentially two or three, with an eye on Scoot Henderson.”

Charania notes the Hornets are still finalizing their draft board, which could prompt some movement depending on their end result. For now, the Pelicans hold the 14th overall pick, but apparently are placing an extremely high priority on finding a long-term point guard solution to lead the offense.

Henderson is one of the most enticing prospects in the draft class, possessing an enormous amount of potential that could quickly see him become one of the top guards in basketball. After joining the G League Ignite following high school, now the 19-year-old is poised to become what many expect to be a top-three pick on June 22.

Obviously, Zion Williamson is the face of the franchise in New Orleans, but the front office may be warming up to the idea of pairing the powerful low post presence with an explosive guard who can form a dynamic duo for years to come, like Henderson. We’ll see if their dreams become reality later this month.
