Kirk Cousins contract details released

Kirk Cousins Cleveland Browns

The Minnesota Vikings have their quarterback. And as everyone expected, Kirk Cousins didn’t come cheap.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Cousins will sign a three-year, fully guaranteed contract. Mark Rosen of WCCO previously reported the salary is $28 million annually.

A fourth-round draft pick of Washington in 2012, Cousins played six seasons for the NFC East club. He spent the last three years as the full-time starter, posting a 24-23-1 record while throwing for 13,176 yards and 81 touchdowns to 36 interceptions.

Once his former team traded for Alex Smith, however, it became clear Cousins would be headed to a different NFL home for 2018. He chose the Vikings over several interested suitors, including the Denver Broncos and New York Jets.

Cousins has one career playoff start, and he’ll now be tasked with propelling last season’s NFC runner-up one step farther. Minnesota lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the conference championship.

The 29-year-old Cousins will replace Case Keenum, who is expected to sign with the Denver Broncos.
