Rodney Childers has routinely told people that he wanted to surround Josh Berry with the best people possible in his maiden full-time NASCAR Cup Series season.
Stewart-Haas Racing has paired them with one of the best spotters on the roof in Eddie D’Hondt for the 2024 season. The No. 4 car will see the veteran spotter, who most recently had a lengthy stint at Hendrick Motorsports spotting for Jeff Gordon and then Chase Elliott on the roof.
Andy Houston will move over from the No. 41 and driver Ryan Preece to Noah Gragson and the No. 10 after first working together earlier in the month in the Snowball Derby. Tony Raines comes over from Roush Fenway Keselowski’s No. 17 team to spot for Preece and the No. 41 team. Joe Campbell remains in place to spot for Chase Briscoe and the No. 14 team.
In 12 seasons at Hendrick, D’Hondt accumulated 26 victories in addition to the 2020 Cup Series championship.
D’Hondt worked with Berry earlier in the season when Josh Berry subbed for the injured Elliott in the No. 9 car.
It’s been well documeted how much turnover there will be on the spotter stand this season but these announcements follow the news that Tim Fedewa left the Stewart-Haas 4 team and the retiring Kevin Harvick for Ryan Blaney’s No. 12.
Josh Williams is also on the move upon leaving the Penske 12.
