D’Eriq King to sit out rest of season

D'Eriq King

Houston Cougars senior quarterback D’Eriq King will sit out the rest of the 2019 college football season, per Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle.

King’s father confirmed the decision.

This is a truly stunning development that gives us more questions than answers. Per Duarte, it’s unclear what King’s intentions are. He has played in just four games this year, so he’s eligible for a redshirt.

Will King enter the transfer portal? Will he sit out and attempt to make it in the NFL next year?

A Heisman favorite to open the year, King certainly has not had the kind of impact many expected. It’s worth noting he doesn’t seem comfortable in Dana Holgorsen’s scheme, and that the Cougars have taken a big step back overall in Holgorsen’s first year in Houston.

He did break a huge record set by Tim Tebow, but overall he’s not had the kind of impact he did a year ago.

Through four games, King has passed for 663 yards with six touchdowns and two interceptions, adding 312 yards and six touchdowns on the ground.
