Yoenis Cespedes undergoes second heel surgery

Yoenis Cespedes

After being ruled out for the season in July and undergoing surgery on his right heel, New York Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes underwent surgery on his left heel on Friday.

According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, Cespedes returned to Dr. Robert Anderson and had surgery to remove bone calcification in his left feel. It is a similar procedure to what Dr. Anderson performed on Cespedes in August.

MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo reported in July that Cespedes would undergo surgeries on both heels. Now that he is partially recovered from the original surgery on his right heel, he was ready to undergo the second procedure.

Cespedes is still likely to miss the start of the 2019 season and his absence could stretch even longer depending on the progress he makes during the offseason. The 33-year-old outfielder is due $58.5 million over the next two seasons and holds a full no-trade clause.
