Yoenis Cespedes will undergo season-ending surgery

The injury bug has swarmed the New York Mets this season, and it has affected outfielder Yoenis Cespedes in the worst possible way.

Tim Britton of The Athletic shared that the team announced Cespedes will undergo surgery on both heels. The procedures will end his 2018 season.

According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, the minimum recovery will be 8-10 months, noting it could take longer but “won’t be shorter.”

Through an interpreter, Cespedes said all conservative treatment options have been exhausted prior to this decision. They chose surgery because he wasn’t able to be on the field and perform as usual.

Cespedes has battled various injuries during the season. He appeared in just 38 games, hitting .262 with a .325 on-base percentage, nine home runs and 29 runs batted in.
