Virginia Tech came into Week 4 as the No. 13-ranked team in the nation and was nearly a four-touchdown favorite to beat Old Dominion.
Then the two teams hit the field, where pandemonium took over.
The Monarchs took every shot the Hokies had to give them, and then they countered. The game was knotted up at 14-14 at the half. During a see-saw second half, during which they scored five touchdowns, including the following gem, Old Dominion secured the huge win.
WHAT A CATCH. OLD DOMINION BACK OUT FRONT.

It was easily the biggest upset in college football so far this season — not to mention the biggest upset by an FBS team over an ACC opponent in the last 40 seasons.
Some more perspective here from @ESPNStatsInfo If Old Dominion can hold on against Virginia Tech, they would pull the biggest upset by an FBS team over an ACC opponent in the last 40 seasons.

For Virginia Tech, the agony of losing wasn’t the only tough pill to swallow, as starting quarterback Josh Jackson suffered what appeared to be a serious ankle injury and had to be carted into the locker room in the fourth quarter.
Twitter users everywhere chimed in on this monumental achievement.
Old Dominion came into the weekend 116th nationally in scoring offense at 18 points per game. Winless Monarchs now have put up 41 on Virginia Tech. Does not compute.

Old Dominion is 0-3
Virginia Tech is 2-0 & ranked #13.
So of course VT is currently losing in the 4th Q to ODU. pic.twitter.com/r6YCZd8dxi

This is an Old Dominion team that lost by 42 points to Liberty and dropped one to Charlotte. Two schools that most people probably don’t know exist.
If they hang on to beat Virginia Tech, this would be one of the biggest upsets of all time.

And for anyone wondering why Old Dominion was playing the No. 13 team in the nation to begin with, here’s an interesting nugget.

This game was just nuts. It’s what’s so great about college football. Every year, we can count on at least one monumental upset to completely rock the rankings. This one might just take the cake.
