Report: Rockets sign former No. 1 pick Anthony Bennett

More than six years after being drafted with the No. 1 overall pick, Anthony Bennett is coming back to the NBA and joining the Houston Rockets.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Bennett will be signing a non-guaranteed deal with the Rockets and is expected to get a chance to compete for a roster spot in training camp.

Drafted with the first pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers, he would spend four NBA seasons with four different teams. Bennett last appeared in the NBA during the 2016-’17 season with the Brooklyn Nets when he averaged five points and 3.4 rebounds across 23 games.

He spent the last two seasons in the G-League and averaged 12.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game in 25 appearances for the Agua Caliente Clippers.

Given Houston’s is extremely limited financially following the trade for Russell Westbrook, Bennett might have a chance to crack the end of Houston’s bench thanks to his minimal salary if he makes the team.
