Report: Philip Rivers could be headed to the Buccaneers in free agency

Longtime Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers made waves this past weekend when he announced that he’s moving from Southern California to Florida.

This seemed to be a suggestion that a 16-year marriage between Rivers and the Chargers could soon come to an end.

An impending free agent, Rivers has noted that he’s open to playing for another team. Meanwhile, the Chargers would be smart to start anew with a young signal caller.

Now comes this report from Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports indicating that there’s a lot of talk about Rivers ending up with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

This actually makes a ton of sense. Tampa Bay is facing a difficult decision with fellow impending free agent Jameis Winston, who made history in all the wrong ways this past season.

Meanwhile, Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians did not give his current quarterback a ringing endorsement following the season.

Arians himself has a history of working with veteran quarterbacks. Most notably, Carson Palmer with the Arizona Cardinals.

Rivers, 38, is coming off a horrible 2019 campaign that saw him throw 23 touchdowns compared to 20 interceptions.

Though, he is one season removed from tallying 32 touchdowns and 12 interceptions en route to an eighth career Pro Bowl appearance.
