Report: Cubs land Yu Darvish with six-year, $126 million deal

Dodgers pitcher Yu Darvish

The Chicago Cubs have reportedly landed one of MLB’s big fishes heading into spring training in pitcher Yu Darvish, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Rosenthal reports Chicago is signing Darvish to a six-year deal worth around $126 million, with a chance to reach $150 million due to incentives.

Darvish, 31, is coming off a rocky 2017 campaign that saw him post a 10-12 record playing for both the Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Dodgers. He also infamously imploded during the World Series, allowing the Houston Astros to tee off in a huge way during Game 3.

None of that kept teams with deep pockets and championship aspirations from pursuing him, however. Now, pending a physical, he’ll help the Cubs in their quest to get back to the World Series for the second time in three years during the 2018 season and beyond.
