Philadelphia Eagles linked to potential trade for impact player from NFC rival

One top NFL insider believes that the Philadelphia Eagles could be a strong contender to land a talented young player on defense from a team that might be big sellers at the NFL trade deadline.

The Philadelphia Eagles head into one of their biggest games of the season against the Miami Dolphins at a bit of a low point. Last weekend, they suffered their first loss of the season after a disappointing showing against the Jets in New York. It was a game where star quarterback Jalen Hurts threw three interceptions and their overall play opened the door to speculation about if this team is as good as last season’s NFC champion roster.

On Tuesday, the organization tried to address some of the issues on offense by signing future Hall-of-Famer Julio Jones. However, while Hurts getting more weapons is nice, the bigger issue for the team is their depth in the secondary. A unit that was an anchor for their elite defense in 2022.

Star corner Darius Slay is dealing with a knee injury, starting safety Justin Evans was put on injured reserve this week, and Reed Blankenship is battling a rib issue. The banged-up Philly secondary is why there has been recent speculation the team is looking at the trade market to sure up the secondary for the second half of the season.

Could the Philadelphia Eagles target trade for Jeremy Chinn?

On Wednesday, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler opened the door to the possibility of the Eagles making a big trade for secondary help before the Halloween NFL trade deadline. Fowler revealed that “people around the league are intrigued by Carolina” possibly being sellers at the deadline as they realize the only winless team left in the league is unlikely to make a playoff run in 2023.

With that in mind, the NFL insider suggested one particular player might be a top target for the Eagles’ aggressive general manager Howie Roseman.

“Safety Jeremy Chinn could be a name to watch. He has played a combined 28 snaps in the past two weeks and enters a contract year. Philadelphia has been beat up in the secondary, and we know GM Howie Roseman never shies away from a deal.”

  • Jeremy Chinn stats (2022): 11 games, 70 tackles, 6 passes defended, 1 QB hit

While Chinn is out of the starting strong safety spot for the Panthers, he has a lot of upside. The 25-year-old had 117 and 107 tackles in his first two seasons, including five passes defended and five QB hits apiece in both of those seasons. The former second-round pick still has a lot of untapped potential and could make a major impact in Philly if he landed with the team before the deadline.
