San Francisco 49ers rookie kicker Jake Moody was seen as a bit erratic during the regular season despite hitting on 21-of-25 field goals during the regular season.

Moody also missed on a field goal attempt in each of the 49ers’ two NFC Playoff game leading up to Super Bowl LVIII against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

About that? Moody’s nerves did not get in the way in the second quarter of the big game inside Allegiant Stadium.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan called on Moody to attempt a 55-yard field goal with game scoreless. Moody absolutely nailed it.

This broke the Super Bowl record for the longest field goal. Steve Christie previously held the record for the Buffalo Bills with a 54-yard field goal.

San Francisco selected Jake Moody in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Michigan. The team was criticized for moving on from all-time great kicker Robbie Gould.

At least for one play, this paid off for the NFC Champions.
