One prominent ESPN NFL insider believes that if the Kansas City Chiefs want to make rare league history by winning a third straight Super Bowl then they need to make major improvements to their passing game, and he knows a guy who would be a perfect fit.

While Super Bowl LVIII was a couple of weeks ago, members of the Kansas City Chiefs roster and staff are still likely celebrating their impressive achievement. Despite looking like a flawed team for much of the season, the organization was able to shift from being an offense-driven team to a defensive monster en route to a second straight championship.

Should the Kansas City Chiefs target Mike Evans in NFL free agency?

It was a major pivot from what has made the franchise the sports world’s current dynasty team. However, if they are to seriously pursue another title in 2024-25, they need to figure out a way to improve the offense. While Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce were again Pro Bowlers this past season, the receiving corps was a major letdown.

The organization is likely to focus on improving that position this offseason. While they enter the spring with just over $18 million (via OverTheCap) much of that will go to defensive stars Chris Jones and L’Jarius Sneed if they can re-sign them. However, if they choose to use some of that on a wide receiver, ESPN’s Aaron Schatz made the case this week for the Chiefs to go after Buccaneers great Mike Evans.

“Start with the best player on the market — and he just happens to have a ring of his own already. Yes, Evans will be 31 years old this year, but he’s still playing at a high level. Evans ranked 23rd in DVOA among qualifying wide receivers last season and has 10 straight years with at least 1,000 receiving yards,” Schatz wrote.

“And he’s money in the red zone, with 13 touchdowns last season. Imagine Patrick Mahomes throwing to Evans on one side with Rashee Rice on the other side and Travis Kelce in the middle. It’s enough for Chiefs Kingdom to already start planning another celebration.”

Evans is sure to hit free agency and have quite a few suitors, so landing him will be very difficult for Kansas City. But dreaming big isn’t a bad thing with such massive goals.
