Capitals sign WHL scoring leader F Zac Funk

The Washington Capitals signed Western Hockey League leading scorer Zac Funk on Friday.

The 20-year-old forward’s three-year entry-level contract carries an average annual value of $810,000 at the NHL level and $82,500 in the American Hockey League.

Funk has collected 99 points (56 goals, 43 assists) through 58 games this season with the WHL’s Prince George Cougars. He leads the league in goals, power-play goals (25) and plus/minus (plus-44).

The British Columbia native recently broke Prince George’s single-season franchise records for goals and power-play goals.

Funk has recorded 203 points (108 goals, 95 assists) in 218 career WHL games with Prince George and the Calgary Hitmen.
