WATCH: Richard Sherman handshake complaint against Baker Mayfield is totally bogus

Richard Sherman and the San Francisco 49ers ripped into Baker Mayfield after blowing out the Cleveland Browns Monday night.

Sherman’s big complaint was that Mayfield didn’t shake hands after the coin toss at the middle of the field prior to the game.

“What’s amazing, and annoying, was him not shaking hands at the beginning,” Sherman told Michael Silver of NFL.com. “That’s some college s—. It’s ridiculous. We’re all trying to get psyched up, but shaking hands with your opponent — that’s NFL etiquette. And when you pull bush league stuff, that’s disrespectful to the game. And believe me, that’s gonna get us fired up.”

There’s just one huge problem with that. Mayfield did, in fact, shake hands before the coin flip. Then, afterward, as other players shook hands once again, he darted off the field. Here’s a video of the entire exchange.

Sherman and the 49ers are playing with a massive chip on their shoulders after many in the media predicted another sour season for San Francisco. So, they’re using everything at their disposal to stay motivated.

This can be seen in the way Sherman responded when Albert Breer of The MMQB reached out to him about the video above.

Honestly, watching the video, Baker Mayfield didn’t do anything wrong. The huge complaint against him isn’t based on anything other than the 49ers taking a nothing burger and turning it into bulletin board material.

In short, this complaint is totally bogus.
