NFL rumors: Jadeveon Clowney weighing offers from Saints, Titans

Seattle Seahawks edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney

The long, drawn-out saga surrounding top free agent and former No. 1 pick Jadeveon Clowney could be coming to a culmination here soon.

Clowney, 27, has been the top free agent on the market since back in March. The three-time Pro Bowler originally overvalued himself on the market itself.

With the 2020 NFL season slated to get started in less than a tweek, two favorites have emerged in the sweepstakes for Clowney.

Jadeveon Clowney has offers from the Saints and Titans

According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, the Seattle Seahawks have also emerged as a third option.

We previously reported that the Saints were sending an “all out blitz” to sign Clowney with head coach Sean Payton playing a prominent role. Meanwhile, the former South Carolina standout has been linked to the Titans a whole lot in recent months.

Both teams are intriguing fits.

New Orleans Saints depth chart

The Saints joined the NFL’s 31 other teams in cutting their roster down to 53 players ahead of their season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Sunday.

Pro Bowler Cameron Jordan is the unqeistioned top pass-rish threat in New Orleans. He’s joined by former first-round pick Marcus Davenport in creating a solid tandem. Though, Davenport could be utilized as a pass-rush specialist if the Saints were to add Clowney. He’s dealt with injuries throughout his young career.

Tennessee Titans depth chart

Fresh off a surprise appearance in the AFC Championship Game, the Titans have a need in the defensive front seven. Big-time free-agent signing Vic Beasley remained away from the team throughout the early part of training camp. There’s no telling what’s going to happen on that front.

Running a 3-4 defensive scheme, the Titans have a young stud in that of Harold Landry slated to start opposite Beasley. Surely, adding Clowney to the mix would make sense here.

As noted in the report, it seems like the Seahawks are a fallback option for Clowney. He struggled with injuries in his first (and likely) only season with Seattle after the team traded for him ahead of the 2019 season.
