New Jersey Devils’ Kyle Palmieri placed on COVID-19 protocol list

New Jersey Devils forward Kyle Palmieri was placed on the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol list prior to Sunday afternoon’s road game against the Buffalo Sabres.

Palmieri joined goaltenders Mackenzie Blackwood and Aaron Dell, defensemen Sami Vatanen and Connor Carrick and forward Travis Zajac on the list.

Palmieri, 29, has recorded three points — all assists — in eight games this season.

He has 341 points (175 goals, 166 assists) in 569 career games with the Anaheim Ducks and Devils. He was selected by Anaheim with the 26th overall pick of the 2009 NHL Draft before being traded to New Jersey in June 2015.

Forwards Jesper Boqvist and Mikhail Maltsev were recalled from the taxi squad to play in Sunday’s game, with the latter making his NHL debut. Forward Nick Merkley was assigned to the taxi squad.
