Jameis Winston Signs Rookie Deal with the Buccaneers

New Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ quarterback Jameis Winston is now officially a NFL player. The team announced on Friday that it has signed the first overall pick to a four-year year contract.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport goes on to report that the deal is for $25.35 million guaranteed with a $16.7 million signing bonus. That’s par for the course under the collective bargaining agreement, which implemented a rookie-wage scale back in 2011.

In his first interview with the press since being selected No. 1 on Thursday night, Winston humbly fielded reporter’s questions, exclaiming that he is extremely anxious to get his hands on the Buccaneers’ playbook and start studying.

With Winston now in the fold, he can focus on learning the nuances of the NFL and participate in any offseason activities asked of him by the team. As the first pick, the expectation has to be that Winston will start out of the gate.
