Who is the best WNBA team? The arrival of Caitlin Clark with the Indiana Fever brings a new wave of fans to the WNBA. With the 2024 season underway, Sportsnaut’s WNBA power rankings are evaluating every team right now.
Let’s dive into our WNBA power rankings 2024, evaluating every team entering July.
12. Los Angeles Sparks (Previously: 10th)
From bad to worse for the Los Angeles Sparks. As if a season-ending injury to star rookie Cameron Brink wasn’t bad enough, now Los Angeles is riding a seven-game losing streak with a 2-8 record in the last 10 games. As for bright spots out of Los Angeles, Cameron Brink has been more of a consistent scoring threat as of late.

11. Dallas Wings (Previously: 11th)
The Dallas Wings entered June with a 3-3 record, coming off a very close loss (74-72) to the Connecticut Sun. It’s been all downhill since. Dallas went 1-11 in June, the worst record in the WNBA. Arike Ogunbowale (23.9 PPG, 5 APG< 4.7 APG, 2.7 SPG) is still doing everything she can to try and win, but an injury-plagued Wings roster just doesn’t have enough talent around her to do it.

10. Washington Mystics (Previously: 12th)
At least the Washington Mystics aren’t at the bottom of our WNBA power rankings anymore. Washington is still one of the worst road teams (1-8) in the WNBA, but it does have a better point differential (=3.7) than the Dallas Wings or Los Angeles Sparks. At the very least, Washington has looked more impressive in flashes than the Sparks and Wings.

9. Chicago Sky (Previously: 9th)
The Angel Reese show is one of the best things in the WNBA this season. While the Sky aren’t winning quite as consistently as they did in May (3-3), the team at least showed a lot of flashes in Juen despite the 3-5 record. What matters the most for a young team is that Reese already looks like a WNBA All-Star and Chennedy Carter (14.7 PPG, 1.1 SPG) is blossoming in her role. It should also only be a matter of time until Kamilla Cardoso really gets going.

8. Atlanta Dream (Previously:
There’s been very little consistency from the Atlanta Dream in 2024. The Dream have won consecutive games just once in 2024 and a majority of their victories are followed by back-to-back losses. An ugly second half against the New York Liberty proved costly this past Sunday. From the positive perspective, Alisha Gray has been excellent as of late and we know how much better Atlanta can be when Rhyne Howard (ankle) is in the lineup.

7. Phoenix Mercury (Previously: 5)
June was so much better to the Phoenix Mercury than May (3-5). With Brittney Griner getting back into her form, Phoenix finished the month with a 7-4 record that included victories over the New York Liberty and Seattle Storm. However, the Mercury dropped in our WNBA power rankings this week after being outplayed head-to-head by the Indiana Fever on Sunday.

6. Indiana Fever (Previously: 8th)
The Indiana Fever started the 2024 season 2-9, easily looking like one of the worst WNBA teams. Getting some time off (June 3-6) made quite the difference. Indiana went 6-3 over its last 9 games and Caitlin Clark has been outstanding during that run. While she isn’t bringing quite as much scoring as expected, Clark’s basketball IQ and passing are standing out right now. The Fever are still young, but the way this team has been playing in recent weeks screams playoff contender.

5. Las Vegas Aces (Previously: 5th)
Chelsea Gray returns and the Las Vegas Aces win four consecutive games, beating every opponent by double digits. It was only a matter of time until the Aces got back on track, they were just missing their guard. Now that Gray is back on the court, we fully expect Las Vegas to play like one of the best WNBA teams from here on out.

4. Seattle Storm (Previously: 4th)
The Seattle Storm have experienced a few bumps during the 2024 season, like back-to-back losses to Phoenix and Las Vegas, but this team can also string together a lot of victories. Following a 1-3 start to the season, the Storm are 11-3 which gives them one of the best records in the WNBA over the last month. Plus, Jewell Loyd is also making 30-point games look easy in the W.

3. Connecticut Sun (Previously: 2nd)
The Connecticut Sun needed overtime (94-91) to beat the Washington Mystics, which means this team hasn’t won a game in regulation since June 18. The Sun were scorching hot to begin the year at 13-1, but they simply don’t look like the same caliber of team as of late. It wouldn’t be a surprise if both the Storm and Aces eventually overtake Connecticut in our WNBA power rankings.

2. New York Liberty (Previously: 1st)
The New York Liberty should still be considered the favorites to win the WNBA title, but there’s plenty of competition from the Minnesota Lynx, Seattle Storm and Las Vegas Aces. Fortunately, New York rarely loses in the regular season and its upcoming schedule gives the Liberty an outstanding chance to maintain positioning in the WNBA standings.
1. Minnesota Lynx (Previously: 2nd)
When you beat the New York Liberty twice, you belong atop the WNBA power rankings. The Minnesota Lynx have taken out Seattle twice and now have a pair of victories over the Liberty. Great teams are defined by what they do against elite competition. What Minnesota. is showing in 2024 is that it’s ready to compete for the WNBA title.
