Vegas starts anew at quarterback with Jimmy Garoppolo replacing longtime starter Derek Carr. It seems to be a lateral move for the organization despite Carr’s struggles under Josh McDaniels a season ago.
The Raiders still do have some nice components on offense to help Garoppolo, including reigning NFL rushing champion Josh Jacobs. Star wide receiver Davante Adams will team up with the recently signed Jakobi Meyers and Hunter Renfrow to form a solid trio. Though, questions still remain on the offensive line.
The largest issues for this team heading into the 2023 season is defense. Vegas didn’t do a whole lot on that side of the ball with impact free-agent signings. The team did add potential cornerstone edge rusher Tyree Wilson via the 2023 NFL Draft. He should improve this unit big time.
The question is whether Garoppolo is a marked upgrade over Carr under center. He’s proven to be a winner (40-17 career record as a starter). Despite that not meaning much in the grand scheme of things, it should give Raiders fans some hope heading into 2023.
