Miami Dolphins star Tua Tagovailoa will soon be joined in the NFL by his brother Taulia Tagovailoa after he officially declared for the 2024 draft this week.
After some ups and downs over his first three seasons in the league — including a serious battle with concussions in 2022 — Tua Tagovailoa has become one of the top quarterbacks in the sport. He is the leader of the top unit in our latest NFL offense rankings and is sure to be suiting up for his first Pro Bowl appearance later this year.
That is why it should come as no surprise that his brother, Maryland record-breaking QB Taulia Tagovailoa, entering the 2024 NFL Draft on Tuesday made headlines. NFL fans have gotten used to siblings reaching the league and the Tagovailoa boys will be joining the Kelce’s and Diggs’ brothers at the next level.
While Tua has established himself as one of the NFL’s best, many fans are wondering if Taulia can reach a similar level of success. With that in mind, let’s take a look at when he could be selected in April and what teams may use a 2024 pick on him.
Taulia Tagovailoa scouting report and projecting when he will be taken in the 2024 NFL Draft
There was a great deal of hype surrounding Tua Tagovailoa when he entered the 2020 draft. He had a Heisman Trophy on his resume and was a key part of Alabama’s national championship team during his freshman season in 2017. That is why he ended up being the fifth pick overall by the Miami Dolphins that year. However, the word around Taulia Tagovailoa is far different.
The 23-year-old was a three-year starter at Maryland and had an outstanding run at the university. During his time there he became the career leader in passing yards (11,256) for the school and the Big 10 conference. He also is Maryland’s all-time leader in completions (955), completion percentage (67.1%), passing touchdowns (76), and total offense (11,473). Furthermore, he broke the program’s single-season record for passing yards (3,860) in 2021.
However, some issues with his game will likely lead to him being selected on day three or four of the annual event. Tagovailoa is a very good athlete and has impressive mobility, however, he does not have the arm power of his older brother and there are questions about his decision-making skills. Also, just like his sibling his smaller stature (5-foot-11, 205-pounds) could scare off some organizations.
Here are five teams that may be willing to use a mid-round selection on the native of Hawaii.
5 teams that could draft Tua Tagovailoa’s brother Taulia
Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles run an offense fit for a mobile quarterback. With Jalen Hurts playing a style that could lead to injuries, the organization must always be prepared for the possibility that he could miss games in the coming years. Tagovailoa could be an interesting project for head coach Nick Sirianni and the staff as they try and mold him into a high-level backup and potential trade chip.
Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has always been good at developing quarterbacks. So there may be few better situations for Tagovailoa to be in than KC as he can work with the legendary coach, learn from the game’s best QB in Patrick Mahomes, and do so with little to no pressure.

Washington Commanders
There are questions on whether Sam Howell really can be the long-term answer for the Washington Commanders. Assuming the next head coach is willing to give the former fifth-round pick another season to develop, Taulia Tagovailoa could be a sensible day-three backup option as they use their early-round picks to address other needs for 2024.
Los Angeles Rams
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay has also developed a reputation as a high-level talent development guru. With how Matthew Stafford is playing this season, he is likely to be their starter for several more years. However, using a mid-round selection to develop the Maryland star into a potential replacement would be an interesting project for the staff in the years ahead.
Miami Dolphins
Tua Tagovailoa has dealt with injuries and concussions throughout his career, and it is likely to happen again in the future. If Taulia is a better fit to be a backup quarterback at the next level, playing behind his brother and under the man who helped Tua blossom into a star, Mike McDaniel, seems like a match made in heaven.
